N/S KOREA AS AN OPTION?
In 2003 Dr Nelson Mandela entered into discussions to create a peace park in the demilitarised zone (DMZ) between North and South Korea.Since then, the Foundation's CEO has visited South Korea twice, participating in two workshops to discuss the potential of this 4 km wide, 250 km long strip of protected landscape. During the second visit in 2005, the CEO also undertook a site visit to the DMZ with Mr Ted Turner, who was there at Dr Mandela's request.
Subsequently the Foundation was invited by the South African Foreign Ministry to make a presentation about the DMZ peace park proposal to a visiting North Korean delegation. Recently the Foundation gave a presentation to representatives from North and South Korea, which resulted in much discussion and interest. The Foundation was also invited to visit North Korea, whose delegates also expressed interest in visiting the various peace parks in Southern Africa.
