SOUTHERN AFRICAN PEACE PARKS
|Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park
Tourist Attractions
One of the main challenges associated with the implementation of the Transfrontier Park is the rehabilitation of diamond mining areas on both sides of the Orange River. And as diamond mining has dwindled, tourism is one of the few means of bringing about sustainable economic development in the area.
On the Namibian side the |Ai-|Ais Hot Springs and the Fish River Canyon offer more extensive tourist accommodation facilities.
The opening of the Sendelingsdrift Tourist Access Facility has facilitated movement between the Richtersveld and the Fish River Canyon and Hot Springs by shortening the route between the two sections of the transfrontier park by almost 500km.
